I love this-

"Make up your mind to be happy—even when you don’t have money, even when you don’t have a clear complexion, even when you don’t have the Nobel Prize. Some of the happiest people I know have none of these things the world insists are necessary for satisfaction and joy. Why are they happy? I suppose it is because they don’t listen very well. Or they listen too well—to the things their hearts tell them. They glory in the beauty of the earth. They glory in the rivers and the canyons and the call of the meadowlark. They glory in the love of their families, the stumbling steps of a toddler, the wise and tender smile of the elderly.

They glory in honest labor. They glory in the scriptures. They glory in the presence of the Holy Ghost.

One thing I know for certain: the time we have here goes by far too quickly. Don’t waste any more time sitting on the bench watching life pass you by."

Anyone know who worte it?

Homeschooling today.

The day has started out rough. The time change always messes with me and the kids. They slept until nearly ten this morning!
But we seem to be in the swing of things now. Cheyenne is working on a letter and card for Grandma and then we will be working on math. She is grasping addition much better nowadays. We have been working out of Evan-Moor Skill Sharpening Math 1st grade. She likes it very much and so do I. Kindergarten stuff was too simple for her and she became bored easily. So we had to move up to a first grade book. But it was hard to find one that was appropriate for her, she seems to be right in the middle of kindergarten and 1st grade curriculum when it comes to math.

Otherwise today we will paint which is always a fun time. Will post pics later!

I feel the need to purge...

Not like that, I love food to much to ever deliberately throw up:-)

But seriously I have this urge every few months, mostly with the changing of the seasons, to clean, organize and get rid of stuff.

So last night we took a ridiculous amount of stuff to the goodwill. Two extra large (yard waste size) bags FULL of clothes, a monitor, a stereo, toys, books, lots of stuff. Stuff that we don't use, don't wear, Im not even sure why we have the stuff. Some of the clothes I gave away I kept hanging onto just in case, maybe Ill wear it, I might find something to match it....whatever the excuse.
And we also went to Target and purchased a bookcase. The kids have a ton of books and so do we, this is great, but annoying when you don't have enough storage.
So I organized the books this morning.
This afternoon's task is to go through all of Cheyenne's toys and get rid of (probably half) some to the Goodwill. Her birthday is coming in May. Its amazing how much stuff my kids collect. Don't get me wrong I love the fact that we have such a large family with so many generous people, but it gets a little overwhelming sometimes.
My child cannot keep her room clean, not for lack of trying. Its because she has too much stuff for a 4 year old to take care of. In our home we put a huge emphasis on respect for each other and the things we care about. How can a child really care about and take care of 13 baby dolls? I mean really.
So hopefully by the time we get done today I will have a much more organized house, and my kids will have the toys they love and room to play with them. And a much easier time at picking things up.

Matthew 6:19-20

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal"

Spring is coming!

So we add to our curriculum- horticulture! Well not really, just some light gardening. But the kids really learn so much from planting things and watching them grow.
And of coarse playing in the dirt is the best!

we have:

Rosemary

Chives, Italian Parsley and more rosemary ( I just love the smell)

The tomato plant that Russ got for me last week (he's so sweet)

It got a little frost on it the other night, but I think it will be okay.

We also have lettuce that I started from seed in a little clam shell container, you know the kind that berries come in. They have just started to sprout, Cheyenne really gets a kick out of them.
I also have lavender on my front patio and you can smell it when you walk up.

Now if I could just keep this one from digging in the pots, we would really be doing well!

Yes she's in her PJs! We have no dress code here! LOL
Actually she was outside before breakfast. This being Texas and all its starting to warm up. So it was very warm already when we got up this morning around 8. So I let the fresh air inside to wake us up.
I think it may have worked a little too well.

What is this? I said "smile!"
Silly!
